Martha Clippinger: Translations

Martha Clippinger's exhibition, "Translations," explored the vocabulary of color, shape, and form. The artist worked in a variety of media, including painted wood constructions, quilts, and ceramics. In 2014, Clipping began an ongoing collaboration with Oaxacan artisans, Licha Gonzalez Ruiz and Agustin Contreras Lopez, who transform her designs into weavings. These tapetes, alongside her other works, blended contemporary ideas and cultural traditions while blurring the line between craft and fine art. Changing one form into another, the definition of translation, was integral to Clippinger's visual language in this exhibition.
